The Training school is open for members of Local 98. It is here for CDL Training, Hoisting Licenses or upgrades and to increase your skills on various pieces of equipment. Licenses and certifications have become a big part of the construction industry don’t be left out.

During these upcoming months we encourage all of our journeymen to broaden their skills. It’s a great opportunity to enhance your marketability and improve your skill level on other equipment. We can accommodate training requests on an as needed basis. We can schedule one on one training so your commitment will be more effective. Scheduled group classes must have at least 5 participants to be held. All members should call to ensure availability. Increased training, licenses and certifications certainly will create the most opportunities for our members.

**The State of Massachusetts requires that all persons holding a hoisting license must have a current DOT physical card.

OSHA 1926.1427 states all crane operators in the construction industry shall be certified by November 10, 2018. This applies for any state, those holding current crane licenses or where no state crane license is required. The certification requires both written and practical exams. There will be a preparation course and written exam this fall and another next winter at Local 98’s Training School. Please do not wait until the last minute to try and attain this certification. contact the training school for further information.

HOT WORK CERTIFICATE TRAINING

We are holding a “Hot Work Certificate Training Course“. This is a mandatory Massachusetts Compliance course for all people that conduct “HOT WORK“. Hot Work is defined as any person who conducts the following:

  • Welding
  • Cutting
  • Brazing
  • Soldering
  • Thawing Pipes
  • Using Heat Guns
  • Drilling
  • Cutting of Metals

Once the member obtains the Hot Work Certificate they will be able to apply for the Permit. Any members wishing to attend the course can e-mail or call us at the Training Site. The training date is To Be Dated.

Members must call at least 2 days in advance to reserve a seat in any class. Field training on the equipment is also offered on an as needed basis. If members have any other type of traiing need, please call the training school and we will do our best to help you.

Massachusetts Department of Public Safety will require Continuing Education certificates with renewal of hoisting licenses starting September 1,2014. We will be holding Massachusetts Hoisting License Continuing Education classes for the members. Check the class schedule or call the training school for on line continuing education classes.
