The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 98 provides a wide range of benefits for all eligible members and their dependents through several Benefit Funds.

Our Health & Welfare Plan began in 1949 with an Insurance Company. The Plan grew rapidly and in 1970 we became a completely self-administered, self-insured plan, with all benefits paid directly from the Fund Office. As of June 1, 2004, we again became fully insured with an Insurance Company, Blue Cross-Blue Shield, to provide you and your family a more comprehensive package of health benefits.

The Pension Plan was born on April 1, 1959 and the first Pensioner received his benefit on April 1, 1960. The main purpose of a Pension Plan is to provide you with an income after you retire from the work force, so that you and your family can enjoy those retirement years in dignity.

The Annuity Plan was established on December 1, 1988 and the main purpose of this Plan is to provide you with a tax deferred pension benefit or lump sum benefit upon retirement.

These Funds are governed by a Board of Trustees, comprised of equal representatives from Local 98 and the Employers Associations. The Trustees strive to ensure your protection under these Plans and perform their duties voluntarily.

The Funds are administered by the Fund Office Staff and we do our best to maintain professional standards and work hard to ensure that the Fund Office runs smoothly.
